The Twelve

[Full series available on ITVX here]

This gripping courtroom drama tells the story of 12 ordinary Australians who are selected for jury duty in a murder trial as traumatising as it is controversial, in which a woman stands accused of killing her teenage niece. Behind the façade of their anonymity, these twelve ordinary people bring with them their own histories. Lives that are as complex as the trial, full of fractured dreams, shameful secrets, hope, fears, personal trauma, and prejudice. Through the multiple lenses of these jurors, audiences will see the fragility and imbalances of the law, and the chaotic and flawed way we attempt to determine justice in our society.

The limited series also stars Marta Dusseldorp (Wentworth, Stateless, A Place to Call Home) and Kate Mulvany (Fighting Season, Lambs of God, Hunters).

The 10-episode crime drama commissioned by the FOXTEL Group, is produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia in partnership with Easy Tiger Productions with major production investment from Screen Australia in association with FOXTEL.

Financed with support from Screen NSW. The series is distributed globally by FIFTH SEASON. Executive Producers for the Foxtel Group are Brian Walsh and Penny Win.

The Twelve begins on the first day of jury selection in a complicated trial.

Twelve ordinary citizens from diverse backgrounds have been summoned to the Supreme Court to decide the fate of a woman charged with murder. Is she guilty or innocent? Is it even a murder? Her fourteen-year-old niece went missing when in her care, but a body has never been found and it isn’t clear what motive she would have for killing her. Her own family is divided about her guilt or innocence, what hope does the jury have of reaching the truth?

Over ten episodes we explore the lives and loves of the people who will decide the fate of the accused, their histories, their conflicts, their families, their secrets: a gentle suburban mum whose husband’s adoration may be hiding coercion, a builder torn away from his responsibilities, a star student struggling with being a role model to his indigenous community, a chronic gambler with money problems, a brash millennial plagued by traumatic memories.

The values they bring and the challenges they confront will shape the different ways they react to the unfolding trial. Being on a jury for a long complex trial is tough and time consuming, the pressures of the trial impact upon the personal lives of the jurors. They are forced to contemplate the darker side of human nature while being forbidden to speak to anyone outside the jury room about the evidence they confront each day. Alliances become friendships, relationships form and come apart as they learn the contradictory details of what may be a horrible crime, or a tragic accident or simply a runaway teen who knows how to hide. When they reach a verdict, it will change the lives of everyone involved in the trial.

Episode 1

As the jury is selected for Kate Lawson’s lengthy trial, the press follows the sensational case of her missing 14-year-old niece, Claire Spears, who is presumed murdered. When the jurors meet for the first time, it’s clear this is a diverse group, who bring their own problems to the table. Georgina, a middle-class mum, is caught between her duty to the Court and her duty to her family. Garry, a gambler struggling with debt, learns the history of fellow-juror Corrie, who has a horrific family secret she is keeping to herself.

Kate Garraway: Derek's Story

Following the sad loss of Derek Draper in January this year, Kate Garraway: Derek's Story, documents the final year of his life. This film follows the two previous award-winning films also made by Flicker Productions: Finding Derek and Caring for Derek.

With close access to Derek and his wife, Kate Garraway, the film provides an insight into his personal struggles with illness and highlights the challenges faced by millions of people in the UK living with serious illness and disability and those who care for them.

Joining Derek and Kate in May 2023, the film confronts head on the reality of Derek’s struggles and gives an unflinching view of the effect on all those around while also capturing real moments of love and joy as they spend time together as a family.

With around five million unpaid carers in England and Wales, the film also highlights the often prohibitive costs as well as practical difficulties, of caring for people within their homes and features contributions from Jake, the care worker who supports Derek’s care, as well as Kathryn Smith, CEO from charity Social Care Institute for Excellence.

Derek's Story also reflects on Derek’s life before Covid, including his high-profile political career, as well his relationship with Kate, their early years together and how Derek’s illness changed the nature of their dynamic while they maintained their close bond.

When asked why he wanted to take part in this film, Derek said: "I want to be heard."

Press Pack Q&A with Kate Garraway:

Q: The film is an incredibly emotive and personal look at the last year of Derek's life. Why did you both want to make this film?

KG: Obviously when we started making this documentary early last year, we had no idea the events that would unfold that ultimately took Derek from us. And in January 2024, after he had passed, I wondered if it was right that it should ever come to air. But I didn’t want to let those who have given us so much support over the last four years down, and the carers paid and unpaid who in their thousands of letters to me, feel Derek’s story has given them a voice.

Also, I remember so vividly that the idea of making this third documentary at all came from Derek himself. I hadn’t planned to make another one. At the beginning of January 2023, he’d been released from a four month spell in hospital for sepsis and we were very positive about his recovery. Derek was determined to keep on getting better and improving. One day, we were sitting together while I was caring for him and he suddenly, from nowhere, asked, ‘Are we making another documentary?’. I said, ‘Well I hadn’t really planned to. Were you thinking that you would like to?’. And he said firmly “ yes” . I said, ‘Well, if we do, I think we should work on it together and it should be your story, told in your voice.’  Derek got very emotional at the idea, because his words and speech were so limited and there were so many things he wanted to say about the struggle we were all having as a family and he wanted to speak up about it.

I asked Derek, ‘What would be your main message?’ And he said, ‘Never give up fighting for what you believe in and for the people you love.’

So we set out to make Derek‘s story together to highlight how he and our family are just one of millions who, every day, have to deal with the challenges of severe disability or life-threatening illness. And we wanted to celebrate the incredible work of carers, both professional and those who do it out of love.

We had to find a way of allowing Derek’s voice to be heard and while having to finish it without him has been so hard, I am delighted that the film is a tribute to Derek and his incredible spirit. It’s also a tribute to all of those who fight on to make every second of life count, whatever is thrown at them.

Q: The film touches upon the complexities of being a carer in the UK and navigating the social care system, why is it an important subject to talk about?

KG: There are five million unpaid carers in England and Wales and almost half of working-age women in the UK do 45 hours of unpaid care a week. And of course millions more men and women who help out to support other members of the family. Needing care is not something any of us likes to think about because we don’t like to dwell on the circumstances where we might need it. But it is going to come to all of us. This film is not about attributing blame to anyone, I think in a way it’s a rallying cry to all of us about what sort of society we want and how we don’t have to accept, just because you become seriously ill or disabled, your life is over. You should still be able to have a full life with family and friends to the best of your situation. And we must find a way in 2024 to make this happen.

Q: How important has the support from family, friends, colleagues and the public been over the past four years and of course, these last weeks?

KG: It’s been wonderful, very moving. I think it’s because people are fundamentally very kind but I also think some of the incredible reaction is because people are seeing the challenges of their lives reflected in our family’s story. I feel a huge responsibility, and rightly so, to speak up for who don’t feel they have a voice.

Dealing with our grief as a family has been so hard, and we have a long way to go of course. But we are also so grateful to have had the chance to care for Derek and have the extra four years with him that so many don’t. I now want to highlight the incredible people within the care system, and the NHS, who are trying to improve how people like myself and Derek can be better supported.

So, when Katie Wells goes missing one night in the forest, Riya thinks this could be the case that changes everything. The only problem is, Katie Wells shows up at home, safe and sound, 24 hours after she disappeared.

But Riya’s not convinced. Something doesn’t add up. Where did Katie go, and why won’t she tell Riya what happened in the forest? What about the reports of other young people who are disappearing - all seemingly with a connection to the fracking site and the old tree on the town’s outskirts? And then there’s the dead stag on the forest road, which has been obliterated into a thousand pieces by someone. Or something.

Does it all have something to do with Katie’s dad Eddie Wells, who has just been released from prison? One drunken night 5 years ago he committed a monstrous crime, and Riya was the one who locked him up. Or does her nouveau-riche mate Derek - who runs the local bread factory - have something to do with it? He and his anxious brother are certainly hiding something.

Episode 2

As the town - and the Wells family - gather at the Carvery to grapple with the return of Eddie, Riya enlists Ali and Nish to help get to the bottom of what happened to Katie in the forest. Lilly takes out her anger on Jim, warning him that the protests are only just beginning. Katie and Mehmet hatch a plan to move to Manchester, but first, he has something important to do at home. Meanwhile, a stranger arrives in town, having made a pilgrimage to see the Tree of Good Hope.

The Life and Death of Lily Savage

Paul O’Grady, who died a year ago this March, was a ‘National Treasure’ – an ardent animal-lover and professional chatterbox, who became a much-loved fixture of primetime television. But, for more than 20 years, he was also a razor-tongued drag queen.

This is the story of Paul through the prism of his famous creation, Lily Savage, an underground cabaret star who took mainstream telly by storm, against all the odds.

Set against the backdrop of Thatcher’s Britain, Clause 28 and the AIDS crisis, it’s the unlikely tale of how a working class, gay man from Birkenhead created the unforgettable character of a Scouse sex worker and honed her persona on the stages of London’s underground gay venues in the 1970s and 80s.

A leading voice in the battle for LGBTQ+ equality, O’Grady endured police raids, the death of a generation of friends, and heart-breaking visits to AIDS wards (in character) before moving into television. From her big break on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast to mainstream success hosting Blankety Blank on Saturday nights on BBC1, Lily came a long way in 20 years – and so too did Britain. But then, at the height of her fame something extraordinary happened: Lily Savage disappeared from TV, never to be seen again. Paul O’Grady hung up Lily’s wig for the last time in 2004.

Featuring personal accounts from Paul’s close friends and family, including, for the first time, his daughter, Sharyn Mousley, and, using Paul’s own words from earlier recordings, The Life and Death of Lily Savage tells the story of decades of hard graft bringing Lily from the fringes of London’s gay counterculture into the heart of the nation’s living rooms and discusses why Paul suddenly decided to kill Lily off.

With no guarantee that he would ever get work as ‘himself’, what possessed him to throw it all away?

Featuring interviews with Paul’s sister, Sheila Rudd, friends Sir Ian McKellen, Julian Clary, Jools Holland, Jo Brand, Alan Carr and Graham Norton, together they unpick this forgotten chapter of Paul O’Grady’s extraordinary story.

Tired of being lumped with petty crimes, D.I. Riya Ajunwa begins to draw connections between an apparently solved missing person’s case, a mysteriously obliterated stag and the eco protestors at the fracking site. Meanwhile, trouble is brewing at the bread factory. While Katie has a frightening encounter in the forest, a monster from the past rears its head: her father, whom Riya arrested for committing a violent crime five years ago, is released from prison early.

Series 2

Series overview

Award-winning playwright and BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Nancy Harris (Dates) and acclaimed director Paddy Breathnach (Viva, Rosie) return to helm the second season of this acclaimed comedy drama.

Roisin Gallagher returns as recovering alcoholic Shiv Sheridan, alongside regular cast members from the first series.

The second series picks up seven months on from the events of the first, and we now meet the Sheridans in their new normal. To all outward appearances, it seems like the family is relatively content: Shiv’s been sober, celibate, and solvent for 6 months, Ant has hung onto his job at the estate agents and his relationship with Max, and Caroline’s making up for a lost time by shagging everyone she meets on Tinder. So far, so normal… Or is it? After all, how normal is it for 3 grown adults to still be living at home with their parents? And are the Sheridans really happy with this new status quo, or have they just rearranged their dysfunction and found another groove of denial to fit into?

Episode 1

It’s Shiv’s 36th birthday and she’s full of good intentions to stay on the right track. Even though she’s been flirting with sexy barista Alex for months, she’s determined not to let a man derail her sobriety again and refuses his offer of a date. At work, she’s excited to learn about a bursary for new and emerging artists. Shiv’s life is finally looking up. Meanwhile, Bernie has a new boyfriend, Finbar, and is in flying form. Sobriety is going really well for Bernie and she’s being celebrated as inspirational – much to Shiv’s annoyance. Caroline also has a new man – investment banker Shane – and is determined to get married, become a consultant and have babies before 35. She thinks Shane could be the one. Maybe. Ant and Max are happily loved up, though things are going less well for Ant at work. Sales are down – and Eddie warns Ant he needs to up his game. Life hasn’t been quite so kind to Tom. He’s been exiled to the shed and is massively irritated by the presence of Finbar, who makes Tom feel like a guest in his own home. Shiv’s birthday party goes awry when Finbar introduces a radical new house rule and everyone leaves early. Shiv decides to throw caution to the wind and goes to meet Alex, it’s her birthday after all.

Episode 2

Things are getting steamy between Shiv and Alex. Shiv is loving all the excitement, until Alex suddenly refuses a late-night invitation to stay over. Shiv is thrown and turns to her siblings for advice, but Caroline and Ant are distracted by their own problems. Caroline is defensive of commitment-phobic Shane, while Ant is missing Bernie, who’s not as much fun now that she’s sober – and her new sponsor Billy is monopolising her time. Poor Tom’s fortunes take a turn for the worse when he’s unexpectedly fired from his job. Shiv has an unexpected run in with a face from her past and Caroline is shocked to see Rory passionately kissing a new woman. Maybe he isn’t as heartbroken as she thought? At work, Shiv jumps at a chance to prove herself and volunteers to cover the geriatric’s life drawing class, but disaster strikes when the model cancels. Despite the awkwardness, Alex saves the day by agreeing to step in and Shiv learns that there is a lot more to him than meets the eye.

Episode 3

The Sheridans are startled to find Alex in their kitchen making an impressive breakfast; they’re even more confused that Shiv has managed to bag herself such an impressive boyfriend. Tom tries to fly under the radar as he continues to hide the fact that he’s lost his job. Little does he know that Shiv is hot on his trail and unfortunately for Tom, she’s following him on a day when his emotions get the better of him. At work, Ant is put under pressure when he’s told his job is in jeopardy but a visit from Max brings an invitation – to move in together! What should be an exciting moment is hi-jacked by Ant’s insecurities. Meanwhile, Caroline starts to question whether Shane really is the man for her. If Shiv – and Rory – can find new partners maybe she needs to keep looking for “the one”. She reactivates her dating apps and launches into a dating marathon. On the other side of town, Shiv finds Tom in a compromising position but is too alarmed to intervene. She heads to a meeting for advice, only for it to be gatecrashed by Jack. After collapsing on her date Caroline ends up in hospital and gets some shocking news.

Episode 4

Shiv books an acupuncture session with Mina, but she has an agenda. Unable to confront Tom, she hopes Mina will pay him a visit instead. Tom clearly needs help, but Shiv doesn’t feel like she’s the oneto give it. Caroline reels from the news that she’s pregnant, and run-ins with Finbar and Dr. Dan only rattle her further. As if one parent going off the rails isn’t enough, Shiv learns that Bernie plans on giving a newspaper interview about Pam’s murder – which definitely doesn’t seem like a good idea. Meanwhile Shiv learns that she’s through to the next round of the bursary application. She rushes to tell Alex her good news and he encourages her to share this moment with her family. It’s time they gave her some credit! Tom’s delighted to see Mina again, but she gives him a rude awakening; No more living in the shed. He needs to stand up to Bernie. Caroline ambushes Shiv at work, desperate to talk, but Shiv feels like her news is being sidelined as usual and the sisters end up arguing. With the threat of losing his job on his mind, Ant puts in a disastrous performance at a dinner with Max’s family. As the Sheridans arrive home that evening Bernie and Tom share some shocking news.

Episode 5

It’s a day of being in the hot seat for Shiv: she has her bursary interview, but first she has to attend a family meeting, spearheaded by Tom. The Sheridans, Finbar and Mina gather to discuss selling the house. Everyone is on edge and Bernie makes it clear that she is not letting the house go without a fight. Series 1 overview

From the producers of Normal People, this moving comedy-drama is an irreverent, sharp and funny depiction of a family in various forms of denial. The story centres on 35-year-old Shiv, the eldest daughter, as she returns to Ireland for her grandmother’s wake, taking a break from London and her ‘career’ (with a small ‘c’) in art. Shiv is six months sober, and it is fair to say her life is not going as planned. Shiv’s family – who have never really dealt with or talked about the damage caused by the sudden death of her adored elder brother, not to mention her parents’ failing marriage or Shiv’s own chaotic behaviour – are wary of having her back. To make matters worse there’s also her charmer of an ex-boyfriend Jack, who has the uncanny knack of always appearing when she’s at her most vulnerable. His charming presence reminds Shiv of the excitement and thrill of excess from her youth – to call him a trigger would be an understatement. Can Shiv come to terms with her true addiction and the realities of her life, amid a dysfunctional yet loveable family who are each individually facing their own demons?

Episode 8

Shiv leaves for London on the day of Caroline’s engagement party, to the collective relief of the other Sheridans. On her way to the airport, she visits her older brother Carl’s grave and stops in at Karen’s bridal shop eventually finding herself in a pub. Shiv starts her ‘moral inventory’ and in a drunken moment of clarity realises she can’t miss the engagement. She arrives at the party like a whirlwind, sweeping up drinks and ends up giving an impromptu speech much to the rest of the family’s horror.

Under The Banner of Heaven

Full series drop on ITVX on  Monday 26 February

Series overview

This original limited series inspired by the true crime bestseller by Jon Krakauer, follows the murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her baby daughter in a suburb of the Salt Lake Valley.

As Detective Jeb Pyre (Andrew Garfield) investigates events which transpired within the Lafferty family, he uncovers buried truths about the origins of the LDS religion – Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – and the violent consequences of unyielding faith. What Pyre, a devout Mormon, unearths leads him to question his own faith.

The seven episode limited series also stars Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billie Howle, Gil Birmingham, Adelaide Clemens, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie and Sandra Seacat.

Under The Banner of Heaven is created by Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer. Also serving as executive producers are Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Anna Culp for Imagine Television, Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan of Aggregate Films; David McKenzie and Gillian Berrie.

Episode 1: When God Was Love

Detectives Jeb Pyre and Bill Taba investigate the brutal, sinister murders of an LDS woman, Brenda Wright Lafferty and her baby daughter in Utah's typically serene Salt Lake Valley in 1984.

Episode 2: Rightful Place

With a lead suspect in custody, the investigation uncovers more ominous questions than answers as the hidden history of the once admired Lafferty family is exposed.

Episode 3: Surrender

The ongoing investigation leads Pyre and Taba into untrod woods where they unearth information that challenges Pyre's own faith, and draw more Laffertys into suspicion and custody.

Episode 4: Church and State

The investigation intensifies after Pyre uncovers details of the Lafferty family's fundamentalist beliefs, sparking a search for missing Lafferty brothers, Ron and Dan and putting Pyre at odds with his own church leaders.

Episode 5: One Mighty and Strong

With evidence now pointing squarely toward fundamentalist Mormonism, Pyre turns to LDS Church leaders for guidance but is met with roadblocks. Undeterred, he discovers a list of names Brenda's killers plan to murder next.

Episode 6: Revelation

New details emerge about Brenda's attempt to reckon with some of the Lafferty family's most extreme members and beliefs, as Pyre and Taba hunt for those who killed Brenda before they can kill again.

Episode 7: Blood Atonement

As the details of the murders become clear, Pyre and Taba embark on an interstate manhunt, hoping to catch the killers before they complete their list of those to be "blood atoned."

Born From The Same Stranger

Series overview

Every person born from a donor might have multiple siblings they had no idea existed. This brand-new, four-part ITV1 series joins a group of donor conceived people as they open this Pandora’s Box.

Born From The Same Stranger follows searchers as they unite with a host of brothers and sisters or track down anonymous donors who never imagined they could be found.

Their detective work is supported every step of the way by DNA technology, professional genealogists and intermediaries and a specially created social media community of donor conceived contemporaries, many of whom have already pursued their own searches. They are on hand to advise, encourage, offer tips and guidance, and share their own extraordinary experiences.

Born From the Same Stranger is being made as a UK law change takes effect, which sees donor anonymity disappear and anyone conceived by donation after 2005 able to find out more details about their identity when they turn 18. But the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority is acknowledging that the law can’t keep up with the reality of people tracing donors independently and is proposing further changes to allow donor conceived children to have their donor’s details from the moment they are born.

As the series will reveal, those born earlier than 2005 are searching anyway, using a combination of easily accessible DNA testing, genetic genealogy and social media advice. And it’s not an easy journey; they come up against barriers and ethical dilemmas as they pursue their desire to know more about where they come from.

The series promises to uncover intimate and fascinating stories, including meeting a woman whose donor’s sperm was delivered across the world in her great aunt’s hand luggage and a brother and sister who’ve discovered they’re two of 21 siblings and counting. It captures donor conceived people being united with their new-found relatives and explores the effects of nature and nurture on who we are.

From the award-winning Wall to Wall Media team behind ITV's Long Lost Family. The series is narrated by Davina McCall.

Episode 4

What’s the effect of donor conceived people searching for their genetic identity on the parents who’ve raised them? We meet Amanda, who has put off searching until now because she’s worried about the impact on her mum and dad, and Adam, whose parents talk openly and honestly about why they were told to keep sperm donation a secret but who are 100% behind his search for answers.

Mr Bates vs the Post Office: The Real Story

In the early 2000’s The Post Office rolled out a new IT system called Horizon. It was meant to make the lives of Subpostmasters easier. But Horizon had hidden faults.  Subpostmasters (SPMs) using it discovered losses in their accounts. SPMs would call the PO helpline, only to be told they were ‘the only one’ to be experiencing these issues. They weren’t. Over several years the Post Office accused them of theft and sent some to jail. Now, after years of campaigning, Subpostmasters who’ve been living with criminal convictions are getting justice and their convictions quashed. While the wait for compensation continues.
