A Cornish village which was hit by a flash flood earlier this week will have its main road back in action by the middle of next week.

A four-foot wall of water cascaded down the main route in and out of Coverack on Tuesday night after an afternoon of thunder storms - breaking up huge slabs of concrete.

At first, it was thought that reopening the road would take "weeks rather than days" - but Cornwall Council say Wednesday should see the village road reopened.

Cormac, the council's construction company, have removed 250 tonnes of debris.

They will return in November to resurface the main seafront - also hit by the cascade.

An Environment Agency team of 15 have been cleaning out river and will stay until next week.

At the moment the recommendation is that people stay out of the water, but they are hoping to lift that soon.
