Flash flooding hits Cornish village of Coverack

  • Major flash flooding has hit a coastal village in Cornwall
  • Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said on Tuesday its crews were attending "multiple flooding-related incidents" in the Coverack area
  • Two people were rescued by a coastguard helicopter
  • Some 50 properties were affected by the flooding, but no injuries were reported
  • A council spokesman confirmed some properties in the village and one of the roads suffered structural damage
  • An emergency centre was opened in Truro's County Hall on Tuesday night

Eyewitness account: flash floods have broken up village road

The owner of a B&B in Coverack has described the rescue efforts at the heart of the flash-flood-hit village.

Dick Powell says there are half a dozen fire engines in the centre of the village, with the coastguard helicopter helping to remove people from their homes.

The main road in and out of the village, the B3294, is said to have been broken up completely by the weight of the surface water running down towards the sea.
