Les Quennevais confirmed as site for Jersey's new skate park

It has been confirmed that Jersey's new skate park will be built near Les Quennevais Sports Centre.

The government says the move has the backing of islanders following a consultation.

Of the 1,150 people who responded, 1,073 agreed or strongly agreed that Jersey should have a skate park - and agreed at a proportion of approximately four to one that Les Quennevais was the most suitable location.

The government says the permanent location, to the west of the site, is 'aligned with future plans' and situated away from local residents.

The new skate park has already been allocated funding under the Government Plan, with money also coming from the Jersey Development Company and Ports of Jersey.

Funding will also be made available for other skating-friendly areas in other parts of the Island.

Senator Steve Pallett, Jersey's Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture says that while the plans do have public backing, work needs to be done to ensure that concerns raised in the consultation are handled.

Planning applications will now be prepared before construction of the new park can get underway.

The news has also been welcomed by Jersey Skateparks Association.
