Kate Winslet on new movie The Dressmaker
Walking the red carpet is a wonderful but nerve-wracking experience
Oscar-winning actress and international superstar Kate Winslet joined Lorraine today and spoke about her new movie, her childrens’ interest in the acting world, life at forty and not wearing makeup at home.
In her latest film, The Dressmaker, Kate plays a woman looking for revenge.
A comedy-drama set in the 1950s, Kate stars as dressmaker Myrtle Tilly Dunnage, a woman returning to her isolated hometown in the Australian outback after being accused of murder at a young age.
Her arrival comes as a surprise to the townsfolk, most of whom still despise her, but especially her mother Mad Molly, played by Judy Davis, who has become a hermit. Tilly intends to make amends with her but also teach the rest of the town a nasty lesson.
Kate is the youngest actress to receive six Oscar nominations, including one for her breakout role as Rose in Titanic, before winning the Academy Award for The Reader in 2009.
She has also just been honoured with a British Icon Award by Harpers Bazaar magazine, and BAFTA will be celebrating her work at a special event next month.
I do enjoy it, you know you have to enjoy it, they are quite nerve-wracking experiences but at the end of the day it’s also part of the job
Despite her enviable list of accolades, Kate told Lorraine she still gets nervous at red carpet events.
Kate also confessed she trades the red carpet glamour for a more down to earth look while at home, admitting to not wearing make up when she's away from the spotlight.
I will find myself at 3pm in the afternoon going, ‘oh really I’m still in my gym gear or dressing gown’ or whatever it might be, and I don’t wear makeup at home or anything
