Meet Sally Bee
I’ve learnt a lot. And I want to share it with you.
First and foremost Sally is a wife and mother. She is also a home cook, food writer, campaigner, heart health ambassador and TV presenter.
Sally's story was pretty much like everyone else’s for a while. But halfway through a children’s party in 2004, she had a massive heart attack. At the time she thought it was indigestion, but then again, so did the local hospital. Sally was to have two more heart attacks within a week. After the third one, her husband was advised to say his goodbyes, as the doctors did not expect her to survive the night.
As she fought for every second of life left, the minutes turned to hours and the hours to days and she dared to ask the doctors if they thought she could live as long as ten years.
They answered: “Sally, if you can survive ten years after this, you can live forever”.
This year is ten years since Sally's heart attacks. As she walked the slow journey of recovery and readjustment, the conclusion to her health problems were gradually coming to light. It turned out she had a rare heart condition that should have killed her.
What saved Sally's life, was that prior to being ill, she had eaten a healthy diet. Not because she thought her health needed looking after at that young age, but because if she didn’t, she piled on the pounds!
Eating a healthy diet had meant that Sally's body was in fact ‘well enough’ to take such a huge catastrophe. Since then she has been fascinated to learn about how she can continue to improve on this.
