Anastacia: 'I'm proud of my mastectomy scars'

Pop sensation and Strictly Come Dancing star Anastacia has spoken candidly about embracing her scars and regaining her body confidence following a life-saving double mastectomy.

The I'm Outta Love singer underwent the operation in 2013 after being diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. In a brave and inspiring move, the singer, who was given the all-clear later that year, bared her scars for the first time in a stunning naked photo shoot, describing it as the 'last hurdle' in the healing process.

Speaking candidly to Lorraine about her decision to reveal her scars, the 48-year-old US singer, who was on today's show to promote her new album and upcoming tour, said: ''I needed to come clean. I wanted the pictures to be shown by me instead of the paparazzi getting a shot and feeling like they invaded me before I was ready to show. So, it's done.''

Talking about reclaiming her body confidence, Anastacia said the scars and markings left by the surgery are something she has come to embrace and be proud of.

''You have all these scars that you have to contend with, and you feel like a road map in a way,'' she said.

''But I wanted to let women know that road maps are OK, they are just another road map to how wonderful we can be.''
