DJ Derek's family overwhelmed by support of Bristol's musicians and public ahead of memorial

The family of DJ Derek Morris say they have been overwhelmed by support from the public and Bristol's music stars ahead of an event tomorrow to celebrate his life.

Over a thousand people are expected to attend a memorial in St Werburgh's to pay tribute to the performer who spent 50 years introducing music from across the world to Bristol.

DJ Derek went missing in July last year.

His body was recovered eight months later in scrubland near the Cribbs Causeway shopping centre.

His friends and family say they are still coming to terms with his death but are hoping tomorrow's memorial at the Farm Pub will give them some comfort and closure.

Some of Bristol's most prominent musical names will be playing at the pub for free. DJs including Rob Da Bank and Daddy G will be among the performers.

Money raised at the event will fund a giant mural of DJ Derek in Montpellier and help pay for his funeral later this month - to which everyone in Bristol is invited.
