First case of coronavirus confirmed in north Wales, ITV Wales understands
A patient at Wrexham Maelor Hospital has tested positive for coronavirus, making it the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in north Wales, ITV Wales understands.
A source said the case was isolated after arriving at hospital with symptoms on Wednesday night.
ITV Wales has been told that staff who came into contact with the patient have been sent home and are awaiting advice from Public Health Wales.
The source added, "This is a dynamic spreading pandemic, and all parts of the country are at risk.
"We're keeping all patients as safe as possible and giving care for both suspected and confirmed [cases] as well as carrying out our day-to-day job of usual ill patients.
"The public have a big role to play in this. Use alternative to emergency departments as much as possible. Don't block emergency departments up because it's a very high risk area for spread."
The total number of officially confirmed coronavirus cases in Wales currently stands at 19.
Public Health Wales has been issuing updates to those figures each day, usually around 3pm.
