Disruption across South Wales as Nato summit begins
The start of the Nato summit today is due to cause significant disruption in Newport and around South Wales.
Warnings are in place for delays on the M4 between Cardiff Airport and Newport, due to world leaders' convoys. Other major routes, including Chepstow Road in Newport, will be closed due to planned protests.

There will be no access to a significant part of Cardiff city centre from Thursday morning, ready for when delegates arrive for a working dinner in Cardiff.

The NATO summit will be Britain's biggest ever policing operation for a single event, and the high security is also causing disruption.
So-called 'rings of steel' fencing have been erected around the key sites - Celtic Manor in Newport, Cardiff Castle and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and six warships in Cardiff Bay.

Around 150 schools, predominantly in Newport, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, will be closed or operating reduced hours during the summit, largely due to concerns over whether staff will be able to make it into school through disrupted travel routes.

This has caused knock-on disruption for parents, with many having to take time off work for childcare.

Other local services affected include a reduced bus timetable in Newport, and there will be no waste or recycling collections in the city on Thursday.
