Belfast boxer Carl Frampton has had the date set for his courtroom battle with former manager Barry McGuigan over allegedly withheld purse money.

A High Court judge set aside two weeks from 5 September to hear the former two-weight world champion’s lawsuit which centres on alleged earnings in excess of £4m.

Frampton is suing Barry McGuigan, his wife Sandra McGuigan, and the now-dissolved McGuigan family-run Cyclone Promotions.

The writs form the basis of a counter-claim to separate proceedings brought against Mr Frampton in London by Cyclone Promotions.

The Tigers Bay fighter split with Cyclone in 2017 and is facing action for alleged breach of contract.

Frampton is counter-suing on a number of grounds, including an alleged appropriation of fight earnings and a breach of the terms of an International Promotional Agreement.

His lawsuit refers to contracts for fights in Northern Ireland, England, and the United States.

It involves claims against Cyclone Promotions - of which Barry and Sandra McGuigan were directors - over purse fees, broadcasting rights, ticket sales and merchandising from Frampton’s second world title bout against Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas in January 2017.

Lawyers for the McGuigans have stressed that all of the allegations are categorically denied.

They have accused the boxer of lying about profit arrangements as part of a bid to blacken their clients’ names in public.

Although the action was originally due to be heard this month, Mr Justice Colton agreed to an adjournment until September to ensure both sides are fully prepared.

While managed by Barry McGuigan, Frampton was also trained by his son Shane McGuigan, but the role was taken over post-split by former British, European and Commonwealth champion Jamie Moore.

The Jackal then also signed deals with Matthew Macklin’s MTK Global and promoter Frank Warren.
