Belfast boxer Carl Frampton has confirmed his split with manager Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions, following speculation.

In a statement released on social media, the former two-weight world champion thanked the McGuigan family for their time together.

Frampton, who has been trained by Shane McGuigan, said he had taken time to consider his future and make his decision.

The Jackal shot to success with a series of world title fights, but suffered a setback when he fell to his first professional defeat in a rematch against Léo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas in January.

However, his attempt at a comeback on home soil also did not go as planned when he first failed to make weight for a bout with Andrés Gutiérrez - and his opponent then suffered a freak injury in a fall.

That led to the fight being postponed, and ultimately cancelled.

Frampton has spoken of his desire to get back to winning ways.

In his statement on Monday, he added: “I still believe that I’m the best featherweight in the world and I promise my fans that I am continuing with my efforts to get my homecoming fight rescheduled in the very near future.”

The Tiger’s Bay man has long held ambitions of boxing at Windsor Park, but has been unable to make it happen as yet.
