An inquest has opened into the death of Phil Longcake, a grandfather who died after becoming trapped at the top of Dixon's Chimney.

St James' Church in Denton Holme is opening its doors today to remember the Carlisle man who died on Dixon's Chimney.

The family of Phil Longcake have raised more than £8,000 for the mental health charity Mind.

He has been named locally as Robert Philip Longcake, known as Phil to his family and friends. 

The man was trapped on top of the 290ft chimney in the city centre for more than 12 hours. 

A 90-metre cherry picker helped install a ladder which was fixed to the opposite side of the chimney to get him down.
