Dixon's Chimney: Investigation launched into man's death
An investigation is underway into the death of a man who became trapped on top of Dixon's Chimney in Carlisle.
The man, who was from the local area, spotted at the top of the 290ft chimney at approximately 2:30am on 28th October.
Police sealed off the surrounding streets while emergency services attended the incident.
Specialist technicians and specialist firefighters, trained to work at height, used a cherry-picker to lower him down, but he was pronounced dead by paramedics at 4:45pm.
An investigation will commence into the circumstances into how and why the man was on the chimney and the Constabulary will be informing Her Majesty’s Coroner.
Police say his family are being supported by specialist officers.
