The road has been closed on safety grounds because of the dangerous state of the former Central Plaza Hotel.

Eight thousand tonnes of rubble is set to be removed from the site of the derelict building in the centre of Carlisle.

The council say they are carrying out the work as quickly and safely as possible.

The first stage of the demolition of the Central Plaza Hotel will be the protection of adjoining buildings.

The route has been forced to close due to the serious deterioration of the derelict Central Plaza Hotel. 

Victoria Viaduct in Carlisle is closed following a council decision to carry out further demolition to the derelict Central Plaza Hotel.

Victoria Viaduct was shut on Tuesday night so that urgent repairs could take place at the Central Plaza Hotel because of falling debris.
