Closure of Carlisle's Victoria Viaduct to last weeks
The closure of the footpath and carriageway on one of Carlisle's major routes through the city is likely to last for weeks rather than days, Carlisle City Council has confirmed.
Victoria Viaduct was shut on Tuesday night so that urgent repairs could take place at the Central Plaza Hotel because of falling debris.
The council said seven tonnes of loose masonry need to be removed from the front of the building to ensure it is safe.
As the building has no owner, there is no one for the council to pursue to deal with the building.
