Council to make changes to Peterloo memorial after criticism over disabled access
Manchester City Council say they will make changes to the design of a new memorial to the victims of the Peterloo Massacre after controversy over disabled access.
The memorial has been designed by artist Jeremy Deller and is made up of concentric circles placed like steps, with visitors invited to climb to the top as if it is a platform for people to give speeches.
However, campaigners have criticised the design for failing to acknowledge people with disabilities who would not be able to make it up the steps to top of the structure.
Speaking to Granada Reports last month, campaigner Mark Todd called it a "metaphor for inequality."
Today the Council say they've taken the criticism on board and are working with the artist to discuss changes.
