A foggy Christmas Eve: Channel Island flight delays as fog and mist descends
Travellers and islanders hoping for a clear or White Christmas will be left waiting as Jersey Met warns of fog from the morning of Christmas Eve.
Flights to Gatwick have already been delayed and cancelled, as planes struggle to get a clear visual through the fog.
The Jersey Met website says that mist and fog patches began to appear from mid-evening on Monday 23 December.
Patchy fog is likely to persist on Christmas Eve morning, with the risk of it remaining for the rest of the day.
However, signs indicate the fog could clear slightly by the afternoon.
Previously, Aurigny warned of high winds on Sunday 22 December, with passengers being offered alternative flights.
However, winds are forecast to die down to Force 3 and 2 for the rest of the week.
Aurigny flights
Aurigny say they are working "tirelessly" to assist passengers in Guernsey.
They state: "Fog has created delays, with some flights this morning placed in holding patterns anddiverting to alternate airports.
"Aurigny is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its customers and crew while doing everything possible to get everyone to their destinations for Christmas."
Aurigny passengers between Guernsey and Alderney have been set up on sea travel routes.
The airline has also partnered with Avanti Air to secure additional aircraft and crew.
