There has been a large increase in the number of people in Jersey complaining about the quality of their housing.

Environmental Health dealt with 825 reports of sub-standard accommodation in 2018 - that's a 233% year-on-year rise.

They say it shows tenants have "increasing confidence" about reporting problems to authorities.

The figures were published in the latest States of Jersey annual report and accounts.

It follows the introduction of minimum standards for rental accommodation, which forces landlords to assess property in 29 areas, including checking for damp, mould growth and unsafe staircases.

Last year, it was reported 1 in 14 children in Jersey are sleeping in a bedroom with black mould on the walls or ceiling.
