Guernsey's States have voted in favour of a 'two-school model' of secondary education.

The plan, brought by four backbench deputies, who have been dubbed the 'gang of 4', would see just States-run two comprehensives each with their own sixth form attached, with the each school accommodating roughly 1100 pupils.

It defeated the 'three-school model' proposals put forward by the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture (ESC), in a vote held this lunchtime.

A last-minute amendment was put forward by ESC this afternoon to propose yet another possible school structure.

The 'alternative three-school model' was defeated however, even more heavily than the original.

Deputy Dudley-Owen, a member of ESC, told ITV this was a "really low point in this new States."
