Open mic night in memory of Joy Godfray will raise funds for RNLI

31-year-old Joy Godfray was a keen musician and played at open mic nights

The family of Joy Godfray have said they will hold an open mic night in her memory to raise money for the RNLI.

The 31-year-old died at the weekend after she was swept out to sea in extreme conditions.

Her mother, Kim, made an emotional thanks to the charity for 'at least bringing Joy back' saying she 'couldn't imagine anything worse' than not having her body.

Joy was a keen musician who regularly took part in open mic nights and even raised money for the RNLI herself.

On Saturday evening she was rescued from the sea during one of the highest tides of the summer, but was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Firefighters and the RNLI had to battle six foot waves off the coast of Green Island.

Kim says Joy had 'great respect' for the sea and went for a paddle before being dragged out.
