It's been a month since George Floyd was killed by a white police officer in the United States.

His killing provoked outrage and an international cry for justice, mobilising many here in the Midlands to take to the streets in a show of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement.

The injustices black people face is being reexamined across the board, including prejudices present within other minority groups.

Muneera Williams has found out first-hand what it means to be black while being in a south Asian community.

That’s all too familiar for Abdullah Chatoouf who was born to a Moroccan father and a Bangladeshi mum – a point he says was constantly highlighted by the South Asian community he grew up with.

Now, solutions to the issue of anti-blackness within the south Asian community is being highlighted.

The message around skin tone in some south Asian communities has always been, the lighter, the better but the Black Lives Matter Movement has sparked conversation for change.
