Fire in Grade-II listed building in Derby was started deliberately
A fire that broke out at a Grade-II listed building in Derby was started deliberately, an investigation has found.
Firefighters have completed their work battling the fire at the building on Old Goods Wharf in Derby.
However, hotspots will still be checked for by crews in the next 24 hours.
Members of the public are being asked to stay away from the building after a joint investigation into the cause of the fire has found that it was started deliberately.
The site is being secured by building developers, and parents and guardians are also being asked to make sure that children stay away from the site.
Anyone with any information about the fire is also being asked to contact Derbyshire Police.
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service shared on social media that they were dealing with a fire involving a derelict building in Derby since 1:13am today (Tuesday, May 26).
The Great Northern Railway Warehouse was built in the late 1870s.
The building at Friar Gate in Derby was identified as one of the country's top 10 buildings at risk by the Victorian Society in 2017.
Firefighters also tackled a blaze in Friar Gate in 2018.
An investigation later found that it was caused accidentally.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service advised people who lived nearby to keep their windows shut this morning as the fire was causing a lot of smoke.
