Death of Jean Hanlon: Inquiry reopened after ten years
Interview with Michael Porter, Jean's son.
An inquiry into the death of a Dumfries woman whose body was found in a Greek harbour has reopened.
Jean Hanlon, 53, was discovered in the sea near Crete's main town in 2009.
After ten years, her family say Greek authorities are taking another look into the case.
Jean went missing on 9 March 2009. Her body was pulled from Heraklion Harbour on 13 March 2009.
Her death was initially reported as a drowning, but a second post mortem suggested she had injuries consistent with a struggle.
The investigation was shut down in 2018, however, her family have been campaigning to get the case to be fully reinvestigated and reviewed, both in the UK and in Greece.
The petition has reached more than 5,000 signatures. Michael Porter, Jean's son, posted the news on social media.
The case has featured in a number of documentaries over the last ten years, including the recent “Murdered In Paradise - The Killing Of Jean Hanlon”.
Michael Porter said "the response & support has been phenomenal, the documentary received over half a million viewers on the first night."
Her family are set to return to the Greek island next month for a media event for Jean's case.
