Michael and David Porter's mother Jean Hanlon died on the island of Crete in 2009.

They believe she was murdered and have been looking for answers ever since her body was found in the sea three days after she'd gone missing.

A murder inquiry was opened by the Greek authorities. But last week, the family learned the case had been closed. Undeterred, the 53 year old's sons have been in Crete to petition prosecutors to carry on with their investigations and they have now put their faith in the hands of a new lawyer.

Michael Porter told ITV Border:

Jean Hanlon had left Dumfries to follow her dream of living on Crete. But four years after she arrived there, she went missing in mysterious circumstances.

One witness claimed she'd been out drinking with a man she didn't know. Her body was later found with multiple injuries including a broken neck near the main harbour. Two suspects were interviewed but no charges were brought. Michael added:

The brothers are expecting to find out in the next few days whether they have succeeded in re-opening the case into their mothers death.
