NHS reports a further five coronavirus deaths in hospitals in the Anglia region

A further five patients have died with Covid-19 in hospitals in Luton, Northampton and Southend.

It follows five deaths reported in the area on Wednesday and three on Tuesday.

The total number of patients dying in the hospitals in the Anglia region has now reached 4,084 and the total number of deaths in all settings, including care home, hospices and in the community as well as in hospitals is 5,873.

The total figure includes people who have died without a positive test for Covid-19 but where the condition was mentioned on death certificates.



A further 85 people have died in the UK after contracting coronavirus, taking the death toll to 44,602.

The figures, as of 5pm on Wednesday and from the Department of Health and Social Care, do not include all deaths involving Covid-19 across the UK, which are thought to have passed 55,000 according to Office for National Statistics data.

In the past week, 459 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed with positive tests in the Anglia region.

In some parts of the region, new infections are rising twice as fast as the national average of 1.4%.

There have been 94 new cases in Northamptonshire - an increase of 3%.

There have been 91 new cases in a week in Bedfordshire, which includes the unitary areas of Bedford, Central Bedfordshire and Luton. The represents an increase of 2.4% since 2nd July.

A further 85 positive tests were recorded in Cambridgeshire of which 58 were in Peterborough, which represents as rise of 4.7% in the city.

Essex saw 76 additional cases during the past seven days, there were 66 more in Hertfordshire23 in Suffolk and 12 in Norfolk and 8 in Milton Keynes.
