New coronavirus cases in the Anglia region at highest daily rate for four days

The number of new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Anglia region increased by more than 300 between Friday and Saturday.

The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Anglia region has passed 12,300 since the start of the pandemic with an increase of 302 new cases on Saturday.

The daily increase in positive tests is the highest in the Anglia region for four days.

It is possible the increase in cases can be explained by a higher number of tests taking place but regional figures on the number of tests are not available.

However, according to Department for Health and Social Care figures, the number of people tested nationally up to 9am on Saturday 2 May was 10,000 lower than the previous 24 hour period.

Across the Anglia region, the number of new confirmed coronavirus cases was up by 3% in the 24 hours to 9am on Saturday 2 May.

The increases on the previous three days were 258 (up 2%), 250 (up 2%) and 135 (up 1%).

The largest daily rises in the Anglia region on Saturday were in Norfolk with a 5% increase in cases and in Milton Keynes where they rose by 4%

  • Bedfordshire - 1,570 cases (up 10 since the previous day)

  • Cambridgeshire - 1,019 cases (up 20)

  • Essex - 3,191 cases (up 82)

  • Hertfordshire - 2,319 cases (up 48)

  • Milton Keynes - 469 cases (up 18)

  • Norfolk - 1,607 cases (up 83)

  • Northamptonshire - 1,047 cases (up 11)

  • Rutland - 20 cases (unchanged)

  • Suffolk - 1,076 cases (up 30)

The Bedfordshire figures are the local authorities of Bedford, Luton and Central Bedfordshire combined. Cambridgeshire includes Peterborough and Essex includes Southend and Thurrock.
