A further 96 coronavirus deaths announced in the Anglia region
NHS England announced on Saturday that a further 96 patients died with coronavirus in hospitals in the Anglia region. 107 deaths were announced in the region on Friday.
The total number who have died in hospitals in the area since the start of the outbreak has reached 2,279 with Essex the hardest hit with nearly 800 people dying in the county's hospitals.
The figures released by NHS England each day do not include those dying in care homes, hospices or in their own home.
The latest confirmed figure available for deaths outside hospitals in the Anglia region is 172 up to the 10th April.
The Luton & Dunstable Hospital confirmed a further 21 patients dying in the latest figures release on Saturday with the death occurring between the 17th and 23rd April. A total of 153 people have died with coronavirus at the Bedfordshire hospital.
The West Hertfordshire NHS Trust which runs hospitals in St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and Watford confirmed an additional 18 deaths taking the total for the Trust to 252.
The death toll across the UK has now reached 20,000 as the coronavirus lockdown continued into its fifth weekend.
Last month the government's chief scientific advisor Sir Patrick Vallance told MPs the hope was to keep the death toll under 20,000.
Across England, a further 711 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 18,084.
NHS England said the patients were aged between 34 and 100 years old and 87 of them had no known underlying health condition.
