Ten convicts have absconded from one open prison in the past five months.

One "dangerous offender" and another inmate walked out of HMP Kirkham, in Lancashire, on Wednesday.

It comes after eight other prisoners either escaped or failed to return to the Category D training prison between June and October.

The public have been warned not to approach Jordan McNally, 25, of Salford, who disappeared between 5pm and 8.45pm.

He was jailed at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court in December 2010 for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He has links to Salford, Manchester, Cheshire and Durham.

McNally is white, 5ft 7in, of medium build with brown hair, brown eyes and has a surgical scar on the right side of his neck.

Earlier on the same day, Carl John Tanner, 23, left the former RAF technical training centre.

Tanner, who has links to Blackburn and Burnley, was serving a 20-month sentence for robbery.

He is white with brown hair and green eyes and scars to his upper lip and near his right eye.

Tanner has several tattoos including the word "mum" on his neck, "Jade" on the left side of his body, "hope" on his left hand and a tribal design on his right arm.

One of the earlier absconders, 55-year-old William Tams, is still missing after he walked out of the prison on August 9.

Tams, who uses a number of aliases, was serving a sentence of five years and four months for burglary and robbery offences.

He is known to have links to Lancashire and the West Midlands - in particular Wolverhampton - as well as Glasgow, Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire.

When asked last month to comment about the number of absconders from HMP Kirkham, the Ministry of Justice said: "Public protection is our top priority."

It said those who abscond were returned to "much tougher, closed prisons" to serve additional time.
