The town that banned children using smartphones
After it was announced that ministers in England are considering banning children from buying smartphones, Michelle Donelan, the Technology Secretary, hopes the restriction will protect young people from the harmful effects of social media.
But one town in Ireland is way ahead of us. After becoming concerned about smartphones creeping into primary schools, Rachel Harper who is headteacher of St. Patrick's in Greystones, County Wicklow helped launch a town-wide 'no-smartphone code' for any child under the age of 12.
Rachel joined Alison and Dermot to tell them why the ban has been such a huge success, and we hear from two of the parents and pupils from her school who have already noticed a huge difference.
