The Spitfire: A British icon

The iconic Spitfire found fame during the darkest days of the Second World War.

It stood out at the time for its famous elliptical wing and thin cross section, which made it lighter than other fighter jets.

The wings also made the Spitfire one of the most agile fighters in the sky, giving them the advantage in one-on-one battles.

As we approach the 75th anniversary of D-Day this Thursday, we’re joined in the studio by John Nichol, who served as an RAF lieutenant, to share some stories about this legendary plane from his book Spitfire: A Very British Love Story, and we reveal This Morning’s incredible connection to it!
