The man on a mission to save the Yorkshire dialect
According to a recent study, the distinctive dialect of Yorkshire may be at risk of dying out, but one man is on a mission to keep it alive. Retired German teacher and chairman of the Yorkshire Dialect Society, Rod Dimbleby has curated a six-week course where he teaches people to speak, read and write in Yorkshire’s traditional vernacular.
The classes are the first of its kind and have become so popular Rod’s had to start a waiting list. He joins us in the studio to tell us how it all started and to test Alison and Dermot on their Yorkshire dialect knowledge.
