Friday fakeaway with air fryer king Nathan Antony

Just because it’s January, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your Friday night faves. Nathan Anthony has his surprisingly healthy fakeaway - his delicious and sticky sesame chicken with prawn toast.

Nathan Anthony’s Sticky Sesame Chicken

Serves: 2

Ingredients

3–4 tbsp cornflour1 tsp garlic granules1 tsp onion granules1 tsp Chinese 5 spice300g chicken breasts, cut into bite-size chunks1 egg, beatenLow-calorie oil spray

For the sauce1 tsp sesame oil2 tbsp soy sauce3 tbsp honey2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce1 tsp rice wine vinegar1/2 tsp Chinese 5 spice2 tbsp sriracha1 tbsp garlic purée1 tbsp ginger purée

To garnish1 tbsp white sesame seeds2 spring onions, chopped2 red chillies, finely diced

Method

1. Combine the cornflour and spices in a bowl. Coat the chicken in the beaten egg, then in the spiced cornflour mix. Spray well with the oil spray and air-fry for 14 minutes at 200°C.

2. Mix together the sauce ingredients in a bowl.

3. When the chicken is cooked, pour the sauce over the chicken and air-fry for a further 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens, or add the sauce to a small pan to warm over a low heat.

4. Once cooked, serve garnished with the sesame seeds, chopped spring onions and red chillies.

Nathan Anthony’s Prawn Toast

Serves: 4

Ingredients

160g king prawns, peeled and deveined1 tsp garlic purée1 tsp sesame oil4 slices of white bread1 tbsp white and blackSesame seeds2 eggsLow-calorie oil sprayFresh coriander, to garnish

Method

1. If you have a food processor, blitz the prawns, garlic and sesame oil to a paste. If you don’t have one, chop up the prawns with a sharp knife, then add to a bowl with the garlic and sesame oil and use a fork to squish the mix to a paste-like spread.

2. Spread the prawn paste over the bread, then dip the bread prawn-side down into the sesame seeds on a plate. Slice the bread into 4 smaller triangles.

3. In a wide bowl that you can fit the bread slices into, beat the eggs, then dip in the bread (not the prawn side) very briefly, gently shaking off any excess. You can skip this step if you like, I find it helps get the bread extra golden and crispy.

4. Add to the air fryer, prawn-side facing up, spray with low-calorie oil and cook at 200°C for 8 minutes. Serve garnished with some fresh coriander.
