Saved from the tsunami by an elephant

The elephant took me to somewhere I could be safe.

Amber Owen

When a then eight year-old Amber Owen was taken on a holiday of a lifetime to Thailand back in 2004, she had no idea that she would be caught up in one of the deadliest natural disasters the world has ever known.

On the beaches of Phuket when the Tsunami hit, Amber owes her life to a very unlikely hero; an elephant named Ning Nong who lifted her to safety from the deadly waves.

Amber, who is now 20, joins us to talk about her story which has inspired Michael Morpurgo's sequel to War Horse currently being performed on stage in London.

My mum still gives money to the elephant owners to show them her gratitude.
