She’s most loved for her iconic role as ‘Pamelaaar’ in Gavin & Stacey and now, Alison Steadman’s recollecting on a whirlwind career in her first tell-all autobiography ‘Out of Character’. From sneaking off to audition for drama school to winning an Olivier, Alison reflects on her illustrious career.
We got the lowdown on the final ever episode of Gavin & Stacey coming this Christmas - and that emotional last day of filming.
Of her first tell-autobiography - ‘Out of Character’ - Alison said, “I’ve never kept a diary but it’s in my head, all these jobs that I’ve done that do stay in your memory because they are big things and sometimes they are easy or really difficult, there are good times and bad times… it’s all there.”
On Gavin and Stacey and filming the final scenes, Alison admitted, “[It was] so emotional because we all love filming it so much and we had a great time being back together, and that final wrap…”
Admitting how fans of the show tried to watch the filming taking place, Alison said, “Well they try but it’s cordoned off, but there were loads of them - hundreds! I knew when I first read the script [at the start of the first series] that it was really good, I just knew that it was tops, you know. But obviously, you can’t anticipate that it’s going to be as popular as it is, but gradually as things were moving along, [you’d think] this is really going places!”
When asked if she’ll be watching the final ep on Christmas Day, Alison said, “Yes!” and Alison Hammond replied, “I think people will genuinely cry…”
Alison Steadman went on to reveal she hasn’t seen the full episode yet, “We only finished filming it on Monday night… but I think there’s going to be a cast and crew screening, even so, I’ll watch it again [at Christmas].”
