My violent child: 'I thought my child might kill me... I felt like a failure as a mum'
A survey by one of the biggest teaching unions has shown more than half of all special educational needs teachers say they have been attacked by their pupils in the last year.
Teachers said they had been head-butted, punched, kicked and spat on and in a handful of cases this happens on a daily basis. But, this is also something that can affect families at home. Single mum Debbie, 36, feared her now 10-year-old son Joseph was going to kill her due to his increasingly violent behaviour. Debbie says Joseph had wielded knives at her, and even gone at her with a hammer before he was eventually diagnosed with, and treated for, ADHD.
Debbie joins us in the studio to tell us how a child psychologist changed their life.
PDA Society
The organisation was first established in 1997 by parents of children with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), an autism spectrum condition. The PDA Society became a registered charity in January 2016, and is run by a small board of trustees who are all parents of children with PDA. We provide information, support and training for parents, carers, teachers and individuals with PDA.
