After a life of silence, Joanne hears for first time
It's absolutely overwhelming. It's not what I imagined sound to be like.
Joanne Milne was born profoundly deaf and started go blind in her twenties due to the rare medical condition Usher Syndrome.
After living in silence for 39 years, last week Joanne heard sounds for the very first time after her cochlear implants were switched on.
The experience was filmed by her mum - and the incredibly moving footage shows Joanne bursting into tears overwhelmed by the life-changing procedure.
Joanne's here to explain why she decided to have implants fitted and what difference sound has made to her life.
