Illustrating Children's Book Week
This week is Children's Book Week, and we are looking into one of the fundamental features which bring the words of the page to life - illustrations.
From the imaginings of a grizzly bear / buffalo hybrid, to the creations of a weird and wondrous chocolate factory, children's art becomes the iconic image we relate to our childhood stories.
Today also sees the opening of the world's first centre dedicated to all forms of illustration founded by Sir Quentin Blake, who created the illustrations for Roald Dahl's BFG and Matilda. Quentin joins us to discuss the importance of illustration in literature along with Lauren Child, the creator of child favourites Charlie and Lola, and Axel Scheffler, the man behind the unique and prominent character, The Gruffalo.
