Growing pains: Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Like many teens, Danny Bowman (now 19) was a self-conscious adolescent, preoccupied with his appearance, but a routine rejection from a modelling agency saw him spiral into self loathing and self obsession.
The result: Taking up to 60 selfies a day, seeing every imperfection on his face, starving himself and even attempting to take his own life.
Eventually diagnosed with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), things changed for Danny, and after intensive treatment and therapy, he is now a happy young man with ambitions and hopes for the future.
Danny's condition is quite common, and today, in the first of a new series of items, Dr Ranj talks us through the nature of BDD, its telltale signs, and how to tackle and overcome it.
