Tonight the nation bids an emotional farewell to Emmerdale’s much-loved character Ashley Thomas, following his two-year battle with dementia. The former vicar has been no stranger to drama over his two decades in the soap, having lost his son to cot death, been cheated on by both his wives and even stripped of his dog collar.
