Dr Zoe explains the breast cancer warning signs you shouldn't ignore

She is one of our resident medics but now Dr Zoe Williams is swapping her stethoscope for some skates for an ITV special of 'The Real Full Monty on ice' and there won't be a thermal in sight! She joined Eamonn & Ruth to tell us why she took part in the show and reminding us just how important it is to check yourself for signs of cancer at home.

All of the celebs taking part in 'The Real Full Monty on ice' have stories to tell about how cancer has touched their lives or those closest to them, which really bonded the group together and highlighted the importance of the show. For Dr Zoe, her connection was her own bowel cancer scare this year. She says,"I had symptoms - weight loss and abnormal bowel movements - I was terrified. But thankfully, I came out clear. But cancer has touched us all in one way or another and it is so important to share those stories and spread the message that checking yourself is vital.”

Dr Zoe's tips on what to look for when checking yourself:

Breast cancer

  • A moist, red area or rash on your nipple that doesn't heal easily

  • Any change in nipple position, such as your nipple being pulled in or pointing differently

  • A change in the size, outline or shape of your breast

  • A change in the look or feel of your skin, such as puckering or dimpling

  • A new lump, thickening or bumpy area in one breast or armpit that is different from the same area on the other side

Testicular cancer

• A swelling or lump about the size of a pea or larger.

• An increase in the firmness of a testicle.

• A difference in appearance between 1 testicle and the other.

• A dull ache or sharp pain in your testicles or scrotum, which may come and go.

• A feeling of heaviness in your scrotum.

Dr Zoe also says, "if you find anything unusual, please get it checked out by a GP."
