Bereavement leave
In 2010, Lucy Herd lost her 23-month-old son after he drowned in their garden pond. This tragic event led Lucy to recognise that as a bereaved parent, Jack's father could only take three days unpaid leave from work, one of which was for Jack's funeral.
On the back of this discovery, Lucy has single handedly set up a campaign urging a change in the current bereavement leave law, which states that grieving parents are only entitled to three days unpaid statutory leave if their child has died. Lucy joins us today to talk about the importance of this campaign, and the positive steps that have already taken place.
