'Baby Reindeer' creator Richard Gadd reveals true story behind hit new show
Based on the award-winning and hit Edinburgh Fringe one-man play, Baby Reindeer follows struggling comedian Donny Dunn’s (Richard Gadd) warped relationship with his female stalker and the impact it has on him as he is ultimately forced to face a deeply buried trauma.
Series creator and star of the show, Richard Gadd has turned his real life experience of being stalked into the new Netflix series. Working behind the bar of a pub, he offered one female customer a free cup of tea after she claimed she couldn’t afford a drink.
That single act of kindness set off a series of events which would change his life forever. The woman - ‘Martha’ - went on to send him 40,000 emails and 350 hours of voicemail while obsessively stalking him outside his home, at his workplace and his comedy gigs.
Richard joins Ben and Cat to explain why he wanted to share his story, and how it feels to have created Netflix’s current number one TV series.
Baby Reindeer is out now on Netflix.
