Soccer Aid for UNICEF Privacy Policy

About this policy

In this privacy policy, “we”, “us” “ITV” and “our” means ITV Consumer Limited. This policy covers the processing of your personal information by us when you make a donation to Soccer Aid for UNICEF.This privacy policy was last updated on 5 June 2024.

What information do we collect and who do we share it with?

When you make a donation to Soccer Aid for UNICEF, we will collect and process your personal data in order to process your donation. This will include your name, bank details and may include other personal data depending on your donation method (for example if you choose to make a donation online, you will need to provide your e-mail address for the purposes of receiving a receipt).

We will also ask you to confirm whether you wish to and are eligible to Gift Aid your donation. If you are eligible and do wish to Gift Aid your donation, we will collect your name, postal address, confirmation that you are over 18 years old, donation amount and date, the date of your gift aid declaration, mobile number (for SMS text donations), and email address (optional for telephone donations) to enable UNICEF UK to fulfil the Gift Aid requirements set out by HMRC. This information will then be passed securely to UNICEF UK to process in accordance with their privacy policy which can be viewed here: https://unicef.uk/privacy. If you choose to donate via telephone, you will have the option to provide an e-mail address which will be passed to UNICEF UK to confirm your Gift Aid donation.

If you choose to take part in the Appreciation Station, your telephone number will be shared with UNICEF UK and its partners so they can run the Appreciation Station. UNICEF UK’s privacy notice will apply with respect to your participation in the Appreciation Station: Unicef.uk/privacy.

If you choose to enter the Soccer Aid delayed donation prize draw, we will collect and process your personal data in order to enter you into the prize draw. If you are a winner, Fonix Mobile Plc will pass your details onto UNICEF UK to fulfil your prize.

We process as much of your personal data within the UK or the European Economic Area (“EEA”) as possible. However, some third parties who help us in the operation of Soccer Aid e.g. Stripe (which takes payment from your account for the purposes of your donation), or GB Group Plc – Loqate (which collates donors’ address details to help donors simplify the entry of addresses) do process your personal data elsewhere in the world. How will we use your information?

We and our authorised third parties will only process your personal data where we have legal grounds to do so. When you indicate that you would like to make a donation and/or Gift Aid your donation, your personal data will be processed in accordance with the below.Processing Activity

Processing your donation

Personal Data involved

Depends on donation method: 

Website: name, full address, mobile number, email address, confirmation that the donor is 16 years old or over, donation amount and donation date 

SMS Text: Mobile number, donation amount and donation date 

Telephone: phone number, donation amount and donation date 

For online and telephone donations, Stripe or PayPal will process your payment details for the purposes of collecting the donation.

Processing Activity

Processing Gift Aid. This data is passed securely onto UNICEF UK

Personal Data involved

Website: name, full address, confirmation that the donor is over 18 years old, donation amount, donation date and the date of gift aid declaration. 

SMS Text: name, full address, confirmation that the donor is over 18 years old, donation amount, donation date, the date of gift aid declaration and mobile number.

Telephone: name, email address (optional), full address, and confirmation that the donor is over 18 years old, donation amount, donation date and the date of gift aid declaration.

Legal grounds

Fulfilment of a contract (in accordance with the Soccer Aid terms and conditions).

Processing Activity

To contact you if your donation has failed, due to platform technical issues

Personal Data involved

Depends on donation method: 

Website: name, email address. 

SMS Text: Mobile number.

Telephone: name, phone number.

We may contact you for this purpose using the contact details you have provided for your donation.

Legal grounds

We have a legitimate interest to let you know your donation was not successful.

Processing Activity

Processing your consent to receive electronic marketing communications from UNICEF UK:

We send these directly to UNICEF UK who will process this information in accordance with their privacy policy which can be viewed here: Unicef.uk/privacy. ITV doesn’t determine the content of any such communications, nor instigates their circulation, as they are sent entirely by UNICEF UK and under its sole liability.

Processing Activity

For record keeping purposes in line with ITV’s regulatory obligations so we can demonstrate the donation was made.

Your personal data will be kept for two (2) years from the end of the Soccer Aid appeal.

All personal data mentioned in the “Processing your donation” row above. However, ITV will not store or have access to your payment details.

Processing Activity

If you choose to opt in to the Appreciation Station, ITV will pass your telephone number to UNICEF UK, who will use it to call you back so that you have the opportunity to receive a thank you from a celebrity in the stadium.

UNICEF UK will only share your phone number with their partners to run the Appreciation Station and to direct your call through to celebrities in the stadium.

You will be asked for your first name during the call back if you want it shared verbally with the celebrity, but do not have to disclose this information.

Will we send you marketing?

You will not receive any marketing communications from ITV or UNICEF UK as a result of making a donation unless you have provided your consent to do so as set out below.

When making a donation online or if adding Gift Aid through the SMS microsite (the web page which allows you to add Gift Aid if you make a donation via SMS text), you will be asked whether you would like to receive further information via email from UNICEF UK about Soccer Aid for UNICEF and its work for children and other ways you can support. Where you have indicated your consent to receive this information from the charity by ‘opting in’, your name and email address will be passed to UNICEF UK and used in accordance with the privacy policy available at Unicef.uk/privacy . You can change how you hear from UNICEF UK at any time, either by using the unsubscribe link included in every email or by contacting UNICEF UK’s Supporter Care team.

What are your rights?

Any personal information you supply will be treated in accordance with applicable data protection laws including the UK General Data Protection Regulation and any other applicable or superseding legislation. We are committed to delivering the rights that individuals are entitled to under data protection laws in the UK. These are:

  • The right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. To do this, please email us using the email address set out below making clear that you are requesting a copy of your personal information and including full details of what you require. You may also be required to submit a proof of your identity.

  • The right to withdraw your consent for your personal information being used for direct marketing. Where required we will ensure we obtain your consent before undertaking marketing and you will have the ability to opt out. Where you have opted in to UNICEF UK’s marketing, please contact UNICEF UK’s Supporter Care team to opt out.

  • The right to object to your personal information being processed where the legal basis for the processing is our own legitimate interests as a business (see ‘How will we use your information?’ section above). We will comply with such a request unless there is a lawful reason for not doing so, such as when we need to continue to process your information to defend a legal claim.

  • The right to rectification. You may request that we correct any inaccurate and/or complete any incomplete personal information.

  • The right to withdraw consent. Where we are processing your personal information on the basis that you have given us your consent to do so, you may withdraw your consent at any time.

  • The right of erasure. You may request that we erase your personal information and we will comply, unless there is a lawful reason for not doing so. For example, there may be an overriding legitimate ground for retaining your personal information, such as keeping your payment information to comply with HMRC requirements.

  • The right to data portability in certain circumstances.

  • The right to restrict processing in certain circumstances.

  • The right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority. We suggest that you contact us about any questions or if you have a complaint in relation to how we process your personal information. However, you do have the right to contact the relevant supervisory authority directly. Do we use cookies?

We use strictly necessary cookies to enable you to use the http://donate.socceraid.org.uk/ webpage to make a donation and on the SMS microsite (the web page which will allow you to add Gift Aid if you make a donation via SMS text).

These cookies do not gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you've been on the internet. Without them, services that you've asked for couldn't be provided or the http://donate.socceraid.org.uk/ webpage or the SMS microsite wouldn't work properly. Because these cookies are essential for our website to work properly, the law says that we don't have to obtain your consent to set them.
