Multiple roads closed in Camborne as police incident declared

A police incident in the centre of Camborne has caused a large area to be closed to the public and traffic.

A man in his 30s has died following the incident, police have confirmed.

Pendarves Road is closed in both directions while Devon and Cornwall Police carry out an investigation at the scene this morning (Wednesday 12 April).

All roads leading to the double roundabout, including Basset Street, Cross Street and Trevu Road are also closed while the investigation continues.

Traffic is being diverted and bus operators cannot provide services into Camborne.

A police cordon is in place around the statue of Richard Trevithick on Basset Street.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix says: "Pendarves Road in both directions closed due to police incident from West Charles Street to Basset Road.

"All roads leading to the double roundabout are closed for the police to carry out their investigation at the scene, including Basset Street, Cross Street and Trevu Road."

The nature of this incident is currently unknown.

8.30am - police issue statement

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told ITV News police were called to a concern for the welfare of a man in Basset Street at around 4.50am.

They added: "The ambulance and fire services are also in attendance. A number of road closures and a police cordon remains in place at this time."
