Penzance open air Jubilee Pool to reopen this weekend
Jubilee Pool in Cornwall has announced it will reopen this Saturday, July 25th, after closing due to the pandemic.
Despite all outdoor swimming pools being able to reopen their doors from July 10, the iconic Penzance pool has remained shut as bosses said they needed more time to make sure it was safe for swimmers to come in once more.
Now the date has been set for the grand re-opening of the 85-year-old pool but there will be some restrictions in place.
New measures
Capacity in the pool has been significantly reduced, and customers will have to book swims in advance, either online or over the phone
Swim sessions will be an hour-long, and there will be five sessions in a day (weather permitting) with a maximum of 150 people per session.
There will also be limited access to changing rooms and toilets, swimmers will be asked to arrive ‘beach ready’ to maximise swim time and to minimise the use of the changing rooms.
The Pool will be open Tuesday to Sunday until the end of September, with tickets available to book from tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd July.
The geothermal pool is nearly complete and after much delay is due to open towards the end of August.
Bosses of the pool have also announced that key workers and their families will be able to swim for free this Friday 24th July as a thank you for their work during the pandemic.
These sessions can be booked online.
Interim chief operations officer Nicola Murdoch said: “We like many other businesses in the hospitality, tourism and leisure sector have found the past four months incredibly challenging."
“We’ve been working really hard behind the scenes to get everything in place to enable us to safely reopen and we can’t wait to welcome people back on Saturday.”
