Warning after Weston-super-Mare fire crews blocked by bad parking
Firefighters that struggled to get past badly parked cars in Weston-super-Mare have reminded people that "poor parking can cost lives".
The warning was posted on Weston-super-Mare Fire Station's Twitter feed on Thursday 18 June.
They said "every second counts" when responding to a 999 call and urged people to "think of emergency trucks and vehicles when parking".
It is not the first time emergency services vehicles in the West Country have been delayed by poor parking.
At the beginning of June, South Western Ambulance Service said some emergency vehicles were being obstructed by drivers queueing for takeaways and drive-thrus.
A spokesperson said: "What costs you a fiver could cost a patient their life."
At the end of May, crews from Clevedon Fire Station were called to extinguish a fire in the woods near Cadbury Camp Lane.
They were also delayed by "inconsiderate parking" and took to social media to remind drivers of the potential consequences.
