More than 500 fines issued for breaking lockdown rules across Devon and Cornwall

More than 500 fines have been issued by Devon and Cornwall Police for alleged breaches of the new coronavirus lockdown laws over the past month.

Across the two counties 510 fines were issued between March 27 and April 27.

Among them are a number of incidents where motorists have made needless trips to the force area.

In April a man was pulled over on the A30 near Launceston, and told officers he'd made a 170-mile round trip to take a break from his wife and kids.

The figure means the Devon and Cornwall force is the fourth highest in the country for number of fines issued, with Thames Valley police at the top with 649 fines.
