Tributes paid after Weston General Hospital worker dies with coronavirus
A "much-loved" Weston General Hospital worker has died with coronavirus.
The hospital in Weston-super-Mare confirmed yesterday (13 April) its employee Amarante Dias had passed away after testing positive for COVID-19.
Dr William Oldfield, medical director at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust, described Mr Dias as a “valued and much-loved colleague” who would be “greatly missed”.
The Weston Super Mare Association of Malayalees also posted a tribute on social media, extending their “sympathies and prayers” to Mr Dias’ family.
Over the weekend, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said a total of 19 NHS workers have now died after contracting the virus.
A total of 89 people, meanwhile, have died at hospitals in the Bristol area with the virus while more than 300 people from the city have tested positive for the illness.
