Family 'absolutely heartbroken' after teenager dies after taking unknown substance

A teenager from Camborne who died after taking an unknown substance has been described as a "bubbly girl with her whole life ahead of her".

The family of Shakira Pellow say they are heartbroken after she suffered a heart attack in the early hours of Saturday morning (7 July).

The 15-year-old was just four months away from her 16th birthday.

Her mum, her mum's partner and Shakira's dad are now urging people to be more aware of the devastating impacts of drugs.

Her family said: "Words can not even explain how we are all feeling at this time, we are all absolutely heartbroken.

"We were four months away from celebrating her 16th birthday, planning a big party with all her family and friends.

"Like any other teenager, she was demanding and a pain in the arse, but on the flip side she knew how to make everyone laugh and her smile lit a room as soon as she entered.

"She was well loved by her whole family and friends.

"Sadly our beautiful baby girl, sister and auntie was gone. She died in her mother's arms and with us all by her side, holding her hand.

"We want to just get the word out to parents, grandparents, teenagers, anyone who reads this to become more aware of the effects of drugs.

"They're not fun, they kill. We would not wish what we have been through over the past 48 hours on our worst enemy."

Devon and Cornwall Police are continuing their investigation and have arrested two 17-year-old boys who have been released on bail.

More than £1000 has been raised so far via a fundraising page to help cover her funeral costs.
